We’re starting our journey with other working dog breeds! The two others we have currently are Border Terriers and Pyrenean Shepherds. We have one of each at this point and are excited to have these breed ambassadors!
We plan to compete in Earthdog, Barn Hunt, FastCAT, and conformation with our Border Terrier, and in Barn Hunt, Herding, FastCAT, and conformation with our Pyrenean Shepherd. If time allows, we might add agility and nose-work to the mix as well with both of them. These sports help to test and prove their natural instincts and abilities in the different jobs they perform.
As you’ve probably noticed, the jobs are a little different between the terrier and the shepherd. Historically, the terrier’s job was to control vermin on the farm, while the shepherd was bred to herd the livestock. SiSu, the BT, has already proven herself as a ratter on the farm. Nico, our shepherd puppy, is still a baby, but his herding instincts are beginning to come in. The other sports that we’re planning to compete in are fun (what dog doesn’t love to run as fast as it can?) and to prove that the dogs fit the breed type and have a healthy build. They will undergo further health and temperament testing in the near future.
To learn more about each of these breeds, check out the AKC website! They are both very energetic, driven, and sometimes stubborn dog breeds, but they are so incredibly loving and so much fun to work with. We’ll be adding pages and profiles about our dogs as time goes on.
